Puppy Linux + SLiMS5 release ( versi )

Post by gurujim » 22 Feb 2013, 04:20

I have created a beta version of Precise Puppy + SLiMS5. It is an iso file. You can get it here :http://bit.ly/YIjmG6 ( the access password = senayan )
Please burn the iso to CD, and boot your computer with it to see how SLiMS works
Please give me feedback - it is just a BETA version!
Enjoy

Since the site listed above is quite slow, I have also arranged for hosting at the site below. Thanks to "puppyt" from the Puppy Linux Discussion Forum for this.

Faster hosting site: https://www.mydrive.ch/download/234346175/

To log in for download: Username = gurujim@puppyt | Password = Senayan ( please note, password case-sensitive, begins with CAPITAL 'S' )
When you login, you will see a number of Puppy Linux related folders. The SLiMS iso is in the "Puppy Linux + SLiMS5 release" folder.

Enjoy

try to install it using virtualbox. is there something wrong with my virtualbox settings, or ... the downloaded iso's just need to download again?

:o I haven't seen that before!! I suspect it might be because of VirtualBox - I have only run directly on hardware.
I have downloaded the iso and burnt it to CD-ROM, then booted directly from the CD and it ran OK previously, before I made the announcement. I will try another download and try again for a double-check.
Are you trying to install into Virtualbox? Maybe this would help:http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions ... ox-847177/
Can you burn to CD and boot the computer directly from CD?

An update: I have downloaded the iso, and tried to boot it using VirtualBox, as you are doing. The iso is fine, so I think the problem is with VirtualBox and memory.
System details: VirtualBox version 4.2.10, running on XPSP3, Real Hardware= PentiumD, 2Gb RAM
VirtualMachine details: windowsxp type, 793Mb RAM allocated, Chipset PIIx3, processor with PAE enabled ( critical for the kernel used in this Puppy Linux)

The Puppy Linux boots OK up to the point where it loads LAMPP - then runs into memory issues. I'm not sure if that is because of the WAY Puppy loads into memory, or whether I need a system which has more total memory I can allocate. I will explore more, and report back. Meanwhile, the best way to test SLiMS on Puppy remains to burn it to CD and boot from the CD ( LIVE session )
